(Statue of Goddess Kali, Sri Veerama Kaliamman Temple, Singapore)
In Hindusim, Kali represents the feminine force of destruction, dissolution and death. A popular Hindu deity, she is often portrayed as a fierce-looking female warrior with multiple hands, each carrying a different weapon, all ready to battle with the evil. It is sometimes said that Kali herself is ‘dark’ because she has existed before light was created.
I have not really worked with Kali as her channel until now. I felt a chill down my spine as I began a short interview with this formidable Goddess.
Me : Dear Goddess Kali, what is the role of destruction and death in one’s spiritual journey?
Goddess Kali: Destroying the illusion of permanency in consciousness and putting to death one’s fear of the new and unknown is the way to birth all possibilities of the Mind.
Me: Does evil really exist?
Goddess Kali: In the eyes of the Creator, the good and evil are one and the same. In His manifestations, evil and good exist separately to permit the cycle of death and rebirth to continue eternally… such is the law of impermanency.
Me: Of the four Elements, which do you symbolise and what would be your main teaching at our workshop The Goddess Dance?
Goddess Kali: Fire as the agent of transformational death. Channeling the fiery passion of your sexuality to experience death and rebirth joyously.
Kali is one of the 8 Lady Masters sponsoring The Goddess Dance workshops happening in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Sydney. Program information and schedules available at The Goddess Dance.
